I think one of the big reasons that mountain biking is so important is because it is performed outside. It isn’t just the adrenaline rush that keeps you coming back for more. Somewhere in Chinese culture, nature means “that which self organizes”. And that’s exactly what happens to you when you get out there on your bike…you get sorted out.
In winter round these parts, it’s not easy to mountain bike all the time. But even when the conditions are far from ideal, you can still find a beautiful day.
But March is here and the trails are opening up fast in the Sea to Sky. It is so good to be coming home smelling like dirt again!
March is a trickster though. You can basically get all the weather that exists on planet earth in one day and I’ve learned to just let it do what it wants, embrace it and mix up the activities just like the weather.
But at some point I just want winter and spring to stop fighting and break up already! My tiny black shriveled heart needs to be brought back to life, haha! Gimme gimme all the sun and warmth. OMG I am just as unstable as March weather…
Eventually though, the fingers of winter loosen their grip on spring’s throat and my pup starts to feast on the fresh green shoots of grass making their way up through the melting snow and the remnants of last fall’s leaf litter.
And the dirt in Pemberton is something to celebrate. Spring is prime time out on Pemberdise’s trails. This valley and it’s steep slopes are in somewhat of a rain shadow and the trails turn to dust early in the season.
All the gals, guys and trail dogs are out harvesting the goods, huge smiles on their faces, pink tongues hanging out the side. Mountain biking is back and it’s sorting everyone out. <3
